Since a cosmetic product can be of great quality but still react poorly depending on the individual, I like to provide context for my review. My beard is medium length made up of really fine wavy hair. I like to straighten out my beard and I avoid any balms, waxes, or heavy styling products in order to leave it silky and smooth.
I have tried dozens of balms, waxes, and butters. In my experience, beeswax simply does not work with my beard. I decided to purchase Kühn products after seeing the beard butter that emphasized shea / mango butter along with shea nut oil. The beard butter from Kühn is the best blend I have yet to find as it completely melts when you work it into your hands and apply it to your beard. However, it still leaves my beard feeling stiff, tacky, and causes the hairs to clump together in a way that does not lay flat. I can mitigate it somewhat by thoroughly brushing my beard and using less than the recommended amount but I am looking to switch to the Hair, Beard & Skin Moisturizer.
My first order was limited to the Cherry Pipe soap and Misty Mountain beard butter. I loved both so much, I turned around and ordered the co-wash, Black Sea beard oil and beard butter, and Teakwood, Cedar & Amber, and White Sand soaps. The Cherry Pipe was so unexpectedly good and I am starting to work my way through the recent purchases. My wife is a tough one to satisfy on the fragrance front and all passed the smell test. As a fairly new customer, I am very happy with the purchases, products, and service.

Seems to be an issue with the consistency of the product this time as it stays close to a liquid towards the base, while a thin shell forms at the top layer. Nothing like the previous shipment.
Black Sea smells plum amazing. I don't eat many plums, so I was a little reluctant to try this scent. However, I was relieved to find that all the ingredients work together synergistically to create a complex scent that smells great.
I also like the texture of the butter--very smooth and so easy to apply to a damp beard. The butter conditions your beard so that it's supple and easier to tame the tangles.

This is fantastic beard butter! It's smooth, melts down quickly, and is easy to apply. The Cherry Pipe scent is wonderful and is just the right potency to last all night without being overpowering. This review is for Mountain Whiskey Beard Butter which has made a huge difference in the texture and softness of my beard. It is outstanding! I use it in combination with the Kuhn beard oil and Kuhn co-wash. Alone, the beard butter made a huge difference and even adds a bit of styling hold. Once I combined it with the oil and wash the difference in my beard is like night and day. Kuhn will be my go to beard brand from now on. All of the scents I’ve tried have been great too.

I am currently utilizing both the unscented beard oil and the beard butter. I have found that both products are indeed a worthwhile investment. My beard and face have experienced a significant improvement in both feel and appearance. My beard is now noticeably softer to the touch and the itching sensation has been alleviated. My wife is quite a bit shorter than me, so my beard frequently comes into contact with her head. Prior to buying this, she'd frequently complain how scratchy the hair was on her forehead. No more! I tried the cherry pipe beard butter and it is a great quality product. It is different from any of the butters I’ve tried and I’ve tried many different ones. The texture and very easy melting are just great. It’s good for styling and doesn’t leave my beard feeling wiry the next day.
The butter has good feel to it. I tried the Misty mountain, the smell is just not there very hard to explain for me just smells like play-Doh or something like that. Tried a few times and just now went to smell it again before this review and just can’t do it. Just not what I expected Sorry.
I am new to the world of beard butter. I tried oils but found them messy. I had been mostly stealing my wife's conditioner in the shower to keep my beard hydrated. I took a chance ordering Kuhns online. I must say I am very satisfied with the scent. I'm still getting used to how much to scoop and how long to rub it between my fingers to get the right consistency. I'll get there with practice. Can't wait to try another scent!
Love the beard products. I try not to use anything else. The fragrances are wonderful, it’s easily melted in my hands before application and keeps my beard right throughout the day.
Warm a small amount between your palms until it melts, then work it through — damp or dry, doesn't matter much. Focus on the flyaways, balm works better for that.
Can I use shampoo or hair conditioner on my beard?
Yes, you can — though it's better to use our co-wash. It's sulfate-free and keeps your hair and beard feeling moisturized instead of dried out, which is what regular shampoo sulfates will do to it.
Are beard oils safe?
Yes — ours is non-comedogenic, five real cold-pressed oils, no phthalates or filler. If you've got a known nut or seed oil allergy, check the ingredients first like you would with anything else you put on your skin.
What beard products do I actually need?
Co-wash in the shower, then oil, butter, or balm after you towel off. That combo alone will make your beard really soft — add balm on top of the oil or butter if you also want hold.
Does beard balm/butter/oil help my beard grow?
No — nothing you put on your face makes hair grow faster, that's genetics. What balm does is stop breakage and calm the itch that makes guys pick and over-trim, so you keep more of what you're already growing.
How much beard balm should I use?
Usually more than you think — I see a lot of guys use too little. Just keep applying until it feels like enough for the length of your beard. Longer beard, more balm. Thicker beard, more balm.
What is beard balm used for?
Balm's heavier and thicker than oil or butter, so it holds. That's what keeps your flyaways down and helps your beard keep its shape through the day, on top of conditioning it.
Is beard balm the same as beard butter?
Nope. My balm's about 30% beeswax, my butter's only around 5% — so butter still has a touch of hold, just way less than balm. Both condition your beard, balm just adds a lot more hold on top of that.
Should I use beard butter at night?
Sure. Good option if you want deep conditioning working overnight without any hold or shine the next morning.
How often should I use beard butter/balm/oil?`
Daily. Damp beard, right after your shower.
Do you use beard butter or oil first?
You can use both, if you want — I'd do oil first, it's easier to apply butter on top after. But you don't have to use both. Either one alone works fine, oil for a normal day, butter if your beard's especially dry.
Can I use beard oil, balm, and butter together?
Yes, and a lot of guys do. Oil or butter for daily conditioning, balm on top if you want hold. Just don't use oil and butter in the same routine — pick one based on how dry your beard's running that day.
I use beard oil/balm/butter but my beard is still really dry and unruly, why?
A well moisturized beard starts in the shower and what you wash it with. If you wash your beard with shampoo or regular bar soap, your beard is being stripped and will be very dry. You need to use a conditioner or co-wash.
I'm new to beard products, what's the difference between oil/balm/butter?
They are all designed to moisturize your skin and beard, they just do it in a slightly different manner. Keep it simple. Short beards, beard oil. A bit longer, beard butter. Longer and/or thicker unruly beards, beard balm. Start with an oil and butter if you're new, then go from there.
What's the shelf life of oil/balm/butter?
12 months if stored in a cool, dry place.
How much do I use of oil/balm/butter?
Depends on the length of your beard, but most don't use enough. You need enough to cover all of the hair follicles. It's difficult to apply too much, and very easy to use too little.
How long does the scent last?
You should expect 6-8 hour from our scents.
Will it stain my clothes?
No, it shouldn't. Most beard products leave a greasy film on the outside of your beard which can rub off onto your clothes. Our products are designed to absorb fully so there shouldn't be any transfer onto your shirt or other clothing.
What if I order a scent I don't like?
TOO BAD! I already got your money. JK. If you order any product from kühn and you're not happy with the scent, we will replace it with the scent of you choice. We'll never make someone keep a scent they won't wear.
