Scents I ordered:
Birchwood - Lighter, sweet, a huge hit with the wife. I like it too.
Hickory - Has the smoke and wood character I expected, well balanced. Quite enjoyable.
Cedar and Amber - Sweet and piney. Wife thinks it smells like Christmas, in a good way.
Cherry Pipe - More Cherry than pipe for sure. The cherry reminds me of the California Auto scents and drive-thru car washes. Wish there was more pipe character.
Mahogany - Gentle and laid back. Definitely one of the lighter scents. This and Birchwood would be excellent choices when you want broadest appeal in important settings like job interviews.
The scents were great. The wife and I chose 3 of them that we loved. The other 2 my son is using himself.

Since a cosmetic product can be of great quality but still react poorly depending on the individual, I like to provide context for my review. My beard is medium length made up of really fine wavy hair. I like to straighten out my beard and I avoid any balms, waxes, or heavy styling products in order to leave it silky and smooth.
The beard oil sample pack has been great. The scents are great and were accurately described. The oil is on the thinner side which keeps it from feeling too greasy but does mean you have to use a bit more. It has done a great job at keeping my skin feeling hydrated without the drawbacks of lesser beard oils.
This stuff is fantastic. Been searching for a little thicker viscosity oil for my thin grey beard struggle and Kuhn's does the trick. It makes it feel thicker and softer. Of this 5 pack Misty Mountain is my favorite scent and will buy again. I like the 5 in the following order: Misty Mountain, Black Sea, Mahogany, Bair Canyon, and Cedar & Cinnamon.

If you haven't checked out the Hickory scent, I can't recommend it enough. It caught me by surprise but this will be the scent I order my next package of priducts including butter, balm and shampoo.
I love Kühn beard oils. The carrier blend of oils work together well on my sensitive skin. If that's all you care about, then I would recommend using the unscented oil. However, I have to admit that the scented oils give me an extra boost of motivation to do my daily beard-care ritual. This set of five sample oils will give you a better chance to find a scent that works for you. Just as "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," a pleasing scent is in the nose of the smeller. Second Batch of Beard Oil Sample Pack was just as great as the first. All the scents are solid choices, I’m digging the Palo Santo lately. The oils are a perfect consistency unlike some brands that are thick and tough to run through. Along with that last comment not much is needed to last most of the day. Medium quality oil. It's pretty light (good) and doesn't leave a greasy feeling. The scents are good but are gone after about an hour. For the price, I expected much more quality.
Great way to test out what you may or may not like as well as give your significant other a test run. She likes about 80% so far so it’s going to be tough to whittle down the next purchase to a couple larger bottles.
The samples are of a really generous size, and the quality of the oil is obvious from the very beginning. Which stands up the most from me are the scents; they are phenomenal! Not only that they last all day. For me my top favorite is Bair Mountain. I'm not sure how a beard oil could possibly smell this good! Other standouts were Black Sea, Misty Mountain, Utah Summer, and Birch. Can't wait to try some other scents in the future!

Absolutely impressed with this sample pack. Every single scent smells amazing—there wasn’t a single one I didn’t like, which is rare. The oils feel great, not greasy, and leave a really clean, lasting scent. You can tell quality went into these. Definitely found a few favorites and will be ordering full sizes!
Warm a small amount between your palms until it melts, then work it through — damp or dry, doesn't matter much. Focus on the flyaways, balm works better for that.
Can I use shampoo or hair conditioner on my beard?
Yes, you can — though it's better to use our co-wash. It's sulfate-free and keeps your hair and beard feeling moisturized instead of dried out, which is what regular shampoo sulfates will do to it.
Are beard oils safe?
Yes — ours is non-comedogenic, five real cold-pressed oils, no phthalates or filler. If you've got a known nut or seed oil allergy, check the ingredients first like you would with anything else you put on your skin.
What beard products do I actually need?
Co-wash in the shower, then oil, butter, or balm after you towel off. That combo alone will make your beard really soft — add balm on top of the oil or butter if you also want hold.
Does beard balm/butter/oil help my beard grow?
No — nothing you put on your face makes hair grow faster, that's genetics. What balm does is stop breakage and calm the itch that makes guys pick and over-trim, so you keep more of what you're already growing.
How much beard balm should I use?
Usually more than you think — I see a lot of guys use too little. Just keep applying until it feels like enough for the length of your beard. Longer beard, more balm. Thicker beard, more balm.
What is beard balm used for?
Balm's heavier and thicker than oil or butter, so it holds. That's what keeps your flyaways down and helps your beard keep its shape through the day, on top of conditioning it.
Is beard balm the same as beard butter?
Nope. My balm's about 30% beeswax, my butter's only around 5% — so butter still has a touch of hold, just way less than balm. Both condition your beard, balm just adds a lot more hold on top of that.
Should I use beard butter at night?
Sure. Good option if you want deep conditioning working overnight without any hold or shine the next morning.
How often should I use beard butter/balm/oil?`
Daily. Damp beard, right after your shower.
Do you use beard butter or oil first?
You can use both, if you want — I'd do oil first, it's easier to apply butter on top after. But you don't have to use both. Either one alone works fine, oil for a normal day, butter if your beard's especially dry.
Can I use beard oil, balm, and butter together?
Yes, and a lot of guys do. Oil or butter for daily conditioning, balm on top if you want hold. Just don't use oil and butter in the same routine — pick one based on how dry your beard's running that day.
I use beard oil/balm/butter but my beard is still really dry and unruly, why?
A well moisturized beard starts in the shower and what you wash it with. If you wash your beard with shampoo or regular bar soap, your beard is being stripped and will be very dry. You need to use a conditioner or co-wash.
I'm new to beard products, what's the difference between oil/balm/butter?
They are all designed to moisturize your skin and beard, they just do it in a slightly different manner. Keep it simple. Short beards, beard oil. A bit longer, beard butter. Longer and/or thicker unruly beards, beard balm. Start with an oil and butter if you're new, then go from there.
What's the shelf life of oil/balm/butter?
12 months if stored in a cool, dry place.
How much do I use of oil/balm/butter?
Depends on the length of your beard, but most don't use enough. You need enough to cover all of the hair follicles. It's difficult to apply too much, and very easy to use too little.
How long does the scent last?
You should expect 6-8 hour from our scents.
Will it stain my clothes?
No, it shouldn't. Most beard products leave a greasy film on the outside of your beard which can rub off onto your clothes. Our products are designed to absorb fully so there shouldn't be any transfer onto your shirt or other clothing.
What if I order a scent I don't like?
TOO BAD! I already got your money. JK. If you order any product from kühn and you're not happy with the scent, we will replace it with the scent of you choice. We'll never make someone keep a scent they won't wear.
